County Novices 2017

Parkside Pools, Cambridge

27 February 2017

On Monday 27th February Cambridgeshire's next generation of diving talent took to the boards to get their competitive year underway in the Cambridgeshire ASA County Novice diving championships at Parkside Pools. Stuart Tawn, President, was there to present the awards.

In the first Category A event, Tobi Fayomi showed that at only 6 years old she can still deliver, coming first in the 7 and under age group. Rufus Bord won the 8-9 years old event with Grace Smith and Daniel Lock taking second and third place respectively. Isabel Sharpe took home gold in the 10-11 age group event, narrowly beating Daisy Chapman into second place, with less than one point between them.

In the Category B events, divers performed slightly more complex dives. In the 10-11 years old age group Malaika Graham finished first with Marisa Cowling a short way behind in second and Molly McGregor in third. In the 12-13 age group Eve Morrison came first with some very high scoring dives followed by Sophia Green in second and Holly Seager in third.

The final event of the night was the 14-16 years age group with the divers performing a full set of dives from both the 1m and 3m boards. This event saw a fantastic performance from Bénodet Houston-Campbell earning her the gold medal in a decisive win. Autumn Cowell finished a short way behind in second with Daisy Reed in third.

Head Coach Aaron Paul was positive about the future for these young divers. "Our programme has always been committed to the development of new talent and these Novice level events are paramount to this. It really motivates me to see the high quality of diving from our newer athletes combined with their overwhelming positivity and enjoyment of these events."
